The media sucks. But you already knew that. The Guerrilla News Network doesn't just offer up another cranky complaint. In this unique multi-media presentation, the media revolutionaries from GNN tell the story of how over the course of four years they went from 300 visitors a day on their fledgling alt. news web site built from equipment cobbled together from a dying dot.com, to over 25,000 visitors today. Along the way they've produced music videos for Eminem and Ad Rock, and a series of Sundance-awarding winning political shorts that have become underground cult classics. This fall, they're releasing a new book, True Lies, a new feature documentary about Iraq, BattleGround: 21 Days on the Empire's Edge, and have a controversial feature film starring Rosario Dawson in the works. These digital Don Quixotes will share their experiences on the frontlines of the info-war, as they discuss the challenges (and opportunities) of media consolidation, the promise (and pratfalls) of low-cost digital journalism, how to get covered (the right way) by the mainstream press, and, most importantly, what tools, skills and talents you need to start your own media revolution.

As part of the Select Media Festival Vanderly Scarabelli of the Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (MST), The Landless
Worker‚s Movement of Brazil, will speak about his experiences fighting for agrarian reform in South America. Filmmakers Joe Lukey and Tom Janas will further explore the struggles for social change through the presentation of their documentary "Don't Steal Our Sun; You Already Own the Cage."
"Don't Steal Our Sun; You Already Own the Cage," is a documentary about people struggling for economic and political empowerment despite the difficult obstacles set before them due to profound inequalities that have plagued Brazil since colonization. Shot in 2003 in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, birthplace of the MST, this documentary investigates Brazil's recent transition from dictatorship to democracy; the rise of the Workers Party to political power through
grassroots movements; the struggle of The Landless Worker's Movement for land and dignity; and the World Social Forum which declares "another world is possible."
Vanderly Scarabelli, member of the National Leadership Committee for the MST, has been active in the movement since 1992. Prior to his participation, Vanderly was involved with the social movements of the Comunidades Eclesiais de Base (base church communities ˆ CEBs) and
the Workers Party (PT), both of which have been crucial to establishing the foundation of what has become the largest social movement in Latin America.

The Barnstormers are a collective of New York artists who create large-scale collaborative paintings, films and performances. The group formed in 1999 after a pilgrimage to the rural town of Cameron, North Carolina. During the trip, twenty-five artists painted dozens of barns, tractor-trailers, and shacks. Consequently, the tiny tobacco farming community became the unlikely Mecca for the urban collective. The Barnstormers continue to interpret and communicate the visual, cultural, and spiritual awakenings inspired by their trips to the south.
The Chicago premier of their video Letter to the Prez and the Gasbook
feature Apostrophe will screen from 9-10:30pm at High School. And hopefully weather permitting on the roof of heaven.
