Select Media Festival 4 • October 20- November 13, 2005
[ Festival website ]

SMF4 was themed Secret Histories and Imagined Futures. We moved the entire festival south to Bridgeport setting up shop in the Iron Studios Building (now called Geolofts) and we rented a few storefronts along Morgan Street. That year we started the first Bridgeport Art Walk; The Experimental Cultural Zone; the New Chicgoans exhibition where we declared a new generation of Chicago artists; created the Secret Histories Museum and extended our festival program to be one month long. Moving the festival to Bridgeport was an omen. During this festival we declared Bridgeport as the Community of the Future.

Copy from the Select Media Festival 4 website:

Bridgeport: Community of the Future
The Community of the Future is a not so tongue-in-cheek reference to the burgeoning art and music scenes in Bridgeport. Over the past few years a number of galleries, cultural spaces like Iron Studios, Hey Cadets!, mn Gallery, Texas Ballroom and the Zhou B. Center have quietly opened and are establishing an enticing south side neighborhood for cultural workers to work, live and play in.

For four weeks Select Media Festival and friends are hosting and presenting a wide range of programming in various spaces throughout bridgeport.
For a complete listing of programs visit the festival website.
